I don't actually know the source of the scan, anymore. I believe the image came from the final Japanese DVD cover (or maybe even laserdisc... I seem to remember LD was still in use lo these many years ago when I first got hold of parts of this series.) The skin is plain but adequate, and I like the base image.
Speaking of lo these many years ago... it was around 8 years ago that I first watched Utena. Among other things that You Kids Today don't realize you should appreciate: Bittorrent, ability to unethically keep downloading series after they've been licensed, DVDs (you can RENT THINGS THAT AREN'T DUBBED, you whippersnappers! Do you know who I would have killed for that privilege back in the day?) dubs that are not guaranteed to make your brain bleed, and most series getting released in full in a time span of less than four years. None of which applied to Utena. I didn't actually see the final parts of the series until they were commercially released, 3 or 4 years after I saw the first arc. |

Touga, from the doujinshi tarot card set (again from Empty Movement.) I could not come up with a title; "Evil Rat Bastard Man" didn't exactly fit the skin as designed, and neither did "Be Sweet," the two that were suggested to me. The compromise candidate was a result of a song call late at night. I had some "Aha! It FITS!" thing worked out, but I forgot to write it down, so I can no longer justify it. It's officially random. Yep. I'm pretty happy with the results. No clue if the response to this is likely to be "yay bishounen" or "ick, skeevy manwhore," but whatever. |
