Tutorial

One problem for me in explaining how to make skins is that I don't know how to explain it. I started out entirely clueless - I had that template I keep pimping, I had some images, and I had some skins I'd downloaded, which I kept poking through, trying to learn from their examples. That helped a little bit, but not all that much, really. I never did develop an organized method as such. The first few skins I made were crappy. I learned as I went.

How crappy, you ask? This crappy.

Observe the volume and position bars cutting across both their faces, the non-functional equalizer, the random aqua thing in the background clashing with the whole color scheme (it was part of the original screenshot - which is why I should not have used that shot), the title cut off by the text marquee... I did not have a fucking clue. It sucked. That's why I'm trying to help, even if, y'know, sucking was good enough for me, back in the day.

So, pending more of the tutorial (I'm working on it, but it takes time) I give you this instead. Grab the template. Grab an image you want to make into a skin - I don't recommend that Vincent wallpaper, I'm just using it for illustrative purposes. Grab one of my skins so you can get a look at the working parts that go into a completed skin. And use this template to figure out what parts go on what files and where those fit in the skin. Since that last step alone threw me repeatedly when I was new, I give you this guide for some help with that. And no, this is not the end of the tutorial, it's just meant to maybe help until I get more written.
