.hack//GAMES, I guess

The game series is, as I've probably said elsewhere, crazy addictive. I feel I should know better. Or at least wait for a bit of a price drop. But no. I am Bandai's bitch. I am owned. And I keep buying the games right after they come out, at full price, because of that.

Balmung In sort of belated celebration of the release of the last game. Perhaps not as good as the previous Balmung skin, though much more purple, but hey, bishounen with wings, no one's going to complain, right? The title's from the in-game keyword for the Sanctum, and the hidden Balmung in the playlist is from .hack//GIFT, one of the most cracked-out things ever animated.
Balmung The title comes from the way the movies available in-game refer to him. I'm far more willing to skin fangirl favorites when they actually have some character development and aren't, you know, actually evil despite what the fangirls infantilizing them might think. ::looks pointedly at Sephiroth, coughs a lot, looks away:: Er, the point of that being that Balmung has character development, is not evil, and his fangirls seem to be smarter. I could be wrong about that - I've been avoiding fanfic because I treasure my sanity - but, you know, for right now that's what I think.

Plus, the guy is a defender of justice to make Amelia proud. Likes to stand way up high and everything. And he sheds feathers, perhaps not on the scale of an Escaboy, but he's no slouch either. You have to admire that kind of respect for tradition.

Black Rose It's hard not to like a girl who snaps at her partner "Don't :-) at me!" I'm slowly developing the ability to distinguish her in personality terms from Mimiru. It's taking some effort. I find at most of the points of departure I prefer Mimiru. She's better than Mimiru at sniffing out plot points, though...

Yah. Pink. I'm pretty damn happy with this one. The image, like the Elk image (and a version of the Kite art, too) came from the Cyberconnect website.

Elk Elk's such a cute little girly pothead. Yes, I know he cannot actually smoke in-game items, but come on, he's obsessed with something called "Aromatic Grass." What else am I going to make of that? Got to give him credit, though... he did far better than Black Rose at forging an identity distinct from that of his doppelganger in the anime. I certainly can't imagine Tsukasa ever giggling.

For the record, I like him. It's just that I once referred to him as girly on my blog and got some really great flames in response, and if his fans are that crazy, dude, I'm going to go to town on mocking him. It's like picking on Tifa. (And seriously. People call Kenshin girly all the time, and all I can say in response is "well, yeah.")

Kite As generic identify-with-the-hero figures go, Kite's not half bad, but I'm not playing these games for the characters. I'm playing because I've heard the .hack//SIGN characters show up in later installments. And there's plot and stuff, too. I kid. Sort of. The games are strangely addictive; I'm just used to a more interesting cast.
