She's the coolest woman this series has produced since FF6, so I'm frankly baffled by Lulu's lack of popularity. I mean, I'm sure the guys all love her, but the female fans seem to be all over Yuna and Rikku, at least in fanfiction and, possibly, in shrines as well. What, was the fannish hunger for sarcasm eternally filled by Quistis? I don't get it. You know it's not the boobs, because look at Tifa's popularity. Maybe her toys scare people? Well, anyway. The skin's appropriately dark, the title's completely random, and I really like this skin, even if it is green.

I ended up quite liking Rikku, and to my surprise, her voice never did start to grate. This voice-acting thing worked out a lot better than I expected. I do think she's probably a horribly overrated character. I haven't been checking out shrines, lately, but I *can* say that she's taking up more than her fair share of the airspace in fanfic, and not only that, but in a creepy pairing with Auron. EeeYUGH, people. She's fifteen! She's a little bitty baby! Auron is a leathery old man! A very cool leathery old man, but still. Some things are just disgusting. I'm fairly proud of the skin itself; it's *different,* at least, which is sometimes a problem for me. It's also one of the most popular on the site.

Auron looks like the coolest of the characters that I've seen. He also looks, to me, at least, like the lovechild of Dryden Fassa and Hiko Seijuro. I'll leave you to ponder that image. You're welcome. ^.^
Auron was, in fact, supremely cool, and he had far more depth than is usual for The Cool Character. At least, he did if you started hunting down spheres. Plus, it's nice when The Cool One is playable for more than a couple of fights, and it's extra-nice when he's actually as tough as he rightfully should be, though I can't think of an example of a cool-looking wuss offhand. I take great joy in making skins using the Amano art for Nomura-designed games, in hopes that it'll annoy someone hoping for the craptacular Nomura stuff. Unfortunately, I then sort of ruin the effect by using the official renders too, but there's always the chance that I'll flush out an Amano fan somehow, so it's worth it all the same.
Selphie-hair or no, Yuna has one of the best outfits for a woman in recent FF history. Yes, Nomura gets some grudging props for this game. But then I'm going to take them away the first time I can bear to look at the FFXI designs. Yuna as a character is not bad, especially once you get to the twists, but a bit dull and too opaque; only once do you get any hint of her interior life. It's also the only time her voice has any inflection at all, so maybe it's the actress's fault, but either way, it stinks for a main character. |
